green hats

I found this pattern for a crocheted hat.  I thought it was cute.  So I made one for Morgan.  I had enough  yarn left over so I made another one.  Who for, I don't know!  but, I made it anyways...

Keeping busy

I have noticed I can't sit still unless my hands are moving.  So, if we watch a movie I am either knitting or crocheting.  A couple of years ago I decided that I was going to learn how to knit.  I have been crocheting for years. (since I was about 11 years old)  But, my Grandma Coates makes to most beautiful knitted things.  So, I got on the internet and found some great info then I called my Grandma and she gave me some great pointers and away I went.  I made Wade an afghan.  An I'll tell you what, I never want to make another afghan that you have to sew all those dumb squares together AGAIN!  I also experimented on dish clothes.  I kind of went nuts on that one.  I think gave away about 20 of them last year for Christmas.  So, here is my first knitted project using cable needles.  It took me awhile.  But, it is pretty...
Awe, isn't Morgan such a cute model?  Here is the scarf I made.  I really like how it turned out.  But, it hasn't been cold enough to wear yet.

A little closer picture.

Placemats

I was blog stocking the other day and came across some blogs that had quilt alongs.  Well I have made demin camp quilts and baby blankets.  I've tried numerous quilts and made afagahns.  But, I have never made a quilt top.  I thought it might be fun since I like to sew.  But, I need to start on smaller projects.  So, I found this pattern on Sew Mama Sew for placemats.  Needless to say, I am using the same placemats that I got for my wedding in 1993.  They are stained, fraying and falling apart.  So good first project.  I just used scraps I had except for the back and the binding.  I think they turned out nice.
I taped the backing to the floor and then put my batting and top on.  I safety pinned it all together.  Then I was ready for some machine quilting.

Ok, I have machine quilted a few things.  But to be honest, I am not really good at it.  These placemats gave me the perfect sized project to practice on.

All bound and ready for use.  I love them.  They turn out pretty cute for scraps I had.  I made 8 of them.  Who knows, maybe I'll make some for Christmas presents!

Pocket Quilt

We have a lady in our ward who has had a really tough time with breast cancer. She has been in the hospital and is suppure sick. So, we had service day in July and Anita (relief society president) wanted to make her a quilt. But, we didn't have a lot of time. So, she asked me if I had any ideas of how we could make her a quilt in short time and involve all the women in our ward. First thought is...I don't quilt. But, I came up with the idea of making her a pocket quilt. We made 12 blocks. Each block represented an area of her life that was important to her. When we put the quilt together, each block was actually the front of a pocket. Winnie Mee (the lady the quilt was for) is always writing everyone notes. So, all the women in our ward wrote her a note and got to put it in which ever pocket ment the most to them. Winnie and her husband are scout leaders, so we also asked the scouts to write her a letter. I was assigned the temple block. Winnie and Joe are converts and the LA temple has special meaning to them. Here is the block I made.

I helped sew the top together. But all the quilting was done on service day. Then we had a lady I think it was Marae Farnsworth, take it home and bind it. I bet she was up all night. Then the Relief Society gave the quilt with all the notes in it at church the next Sunday. (which was the next day) I didn't get to help quilt because we were gone to Park City for our family reuinion. I hope to one day see this quilt I designed and if I do, I will post a picture of it.

Sunday, October 9, 2011

Well, I have been busy... So I have a few things I have been making and hopefully I can get them all posted soon. But, here is one that I have done. there is a lady in our ward that makes these baby blankets and gets them ready to crochet around. Then she gives them to hospitals. So, I have taken a few home and crocheted around them. Here is some pictures of the blue one I did.

Pillowcases for Primary

So, I was in the primary presidency for a little over 3 years. For the year of 2011, we decided to give the kids pillowcases with a little poem on it for their birthdays. I found some cute LDS fabric at Clove (local fabric store). When we started this I thought we would all be sewing these cute little things. But, when it came time to start, the project was a little bit intimidating to the other 3 women. So, I began. I counted, shopped, couponed at JoAnn's, sewed and repeat. To the tune of 90 pillowcases. I had about 50 or so done when, dun-ta-dun, I got released! It wasn't a bad project because I enjoy sewing. I hope the kids liked them. And I hope the women that got stuck finishing my project don't hate me!

This green one was my favorite! It was for the older boys.
The pink on turned out cute. It is for the little girls.
This one never turned out as cute as I wanted it to. I tried different fabric colors to no aveil. (The spell check on this stinks...shouldn't it correct my bad spelling, not just point it out?) But, oh well, hope the girls like it!
This is for the little boys. Rayce likes his, so I guess that is a good sign.
Awe, I am such a good photographer. (ha,ha) Well, you get the picture. I can sew, but I can't photo!

Turquoise & Lime Green Runner

So, this is the table runner that we made in relief society. Well, everyone else made their's there, but not me. I just can't conform! I had to buy my own fabric and make it on my own time. But, it turned out great! And I was able to give it to this great girl I know as a bridal shower gift!
The back is this pretty chocolate brown fabric with turquiose and yellow paisleys.
This is the finished product. I think it is way cute for spring. Or even use it every day if you like the colors. (I do, I picked them out!)
