Placemats

I was blog stocking the other day and came across some blogs that had quilt alongs.  Well I have made demin camp quilts and baby blankets.  I've tried numerous quilts and made afagahns.  But, I have never made a quilt top.  I thought it might be fun since I like to sew.  But, I need to start on smaller projects.  So, I found this pattern on Sew Mama Sew for placemats.  Needless to say, I am using the same placemats that I got for my wedding in 1993.  They are stained, fraying and falling apart.  So good first project.  I just used scraps I had except for the back and the binding.  I think they turned out nice.
I taped the backing to the floor and then put my batting and top on.  I safety pinned it all together.  Then I was ready for some machine quilting.

Ok, I have machine quilted a few things.  But to be honest, I am not really good at it.  These placemats gave me the perfect sized project to practice on.

All bound and ready for use.  I love them.  They turn out pretty cute for scraps I had.  I made 8 of them.  Who knows, maybe I'll make some for Christmas presents!
